Pioneering agricultural research, education, and extension since 1905. As India's premier national institute, we are committed to advancing sustainable agriculture and ensuring food security for the nation.
Explore IARI Contact UsThe Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), established in 1905, is the premier institution for agricultural research, education, and extension in India. Originally named the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), it was renamed IARI in 1947 and became a deemed university in 1958.
Located in the heart of New Delhi at the Pusa Campus, IARI serves as the mother of most agricultural research institutions in the country under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The institute played a pivotal role in India's Green Revolution, developing high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice that transformed the nation from a food-deficient to a food-surplus country.
To advance theoretical and applied research in agricultural sciences, develop human resources, and disseminate innovative technologies to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and farmers' prosperity.
Today, IARI functions as a multidisciplinary institution encompassing 20 divisions, 5 multidisciplinary centers, and 10 national research facilities. Our research spans crop improvement, natural resource management, plant protection, social sciences, and agricultural engineering.
IARI conducts cutting-edge research across diverse agricultural disciplines through its specialized divisions and centers.
Developing high-yielding, stress-resistant varieties of wheat, rice, maize, pulses, and oilseeds through conventional and molecular breeding approaches.
Research ProjectsInvestigating plant growth, development, and stress responses to enhance crop productivity under changing climate conditions.
Research ProjectsResearch on soil health management, nutrient cycling, and precision fertilization for sustainable agricultural production systems.
Research ProjectsIARI offers postgraduate and doctoral programs in various disciplines of agricultural sciences. The institute is a deemed university and awards M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Controlled environment facility with 48 chambers for studying plant responses to environmental variables under simulated conditions.
